For More Info

The Colorado University Touring Squad racquetball league was founded by Jo Shattuck and the Colorado Racquetball Association in 2005, to provide opportunities for college students to compete in intra-university competitions, called meets.

Squads can be formed at any university recreation center, and players need not be exclusive members/students of the center or university. Each squad should have a Sponsor, (preferably a faculty member) and a Squad Captain, (preferably a player). To form a touring squad, submit the Squad Registration form, and the registration fee to the CRA.

Please direct any questions to: Jo Shattuck at (303) 949-7785 or (303) 738-9797, or Ben Kincses.
Or visit: www.racquetballacademy.com under "Colorado Pages"

Clinics & Competition

Each squad will receive a free clinic by a CRA / Ampro certified instructor. The final Meet will be showcased at the CRA State Singles as a separate University Squad Division. (Individual players in this event must also be CRA members. Individual fee approx. $25. Players can also compete in the individual events.)  All meets are scheduled on Saturdays at 8:00 am and each squad sponsor is asked to help run at least one event (if your facility has four or more courts, we ask that you host several meets).  Squad registration fee for the season is $45.

Collegiate Report Card

Congratulations go to the UCCS squad for placing second in both the women’s and overall Division II playoffs at the 2008 Intercollegiate Nationals in Kansas City. The championship drew over 300 entrants from 46 Division I & II schools from around the nation.

The UCCS team was led by Anthony Herrera who, in the middle of his rookie year on the pro tour, battled his way to the championship match in the Men's #1 Gold division. Seeded #5, Anthony was defeated by top-seeded Tony Carson (CSU- Pueblo) in an amazing finals tiebreaker.

<< Chantel Anderson reached the quarterfinals of the Women’s #1 Gold division, while Rachel Wolk (playing in a sanctioned tournament for the first time), took 4th in the Women's #2 White Division, earning herself a medal.

In the Men’s divisions, Justin Loa battled through several rounds in the #2 White bracket; David Vorwaller made the quarters of the #3 Red; and two freshmen - Aaron Grasso and David Smith – each took a fourth place medal finish in the #4 White and #5 White divisions, respectively.

Combined, these players earned a total of 490 points to push the team into second place for all Division II schools. This was a first time for many of the players, so we have a lot to look forward to in the up and coming years! – Reported by Chantal Anderson (with special thanks to all the team supporters including coaches, Lynmar facilities, SGA, Daniel over at the Rec Center and Sabrina Wienholtz).

According to Club President Ben Kincses, the DU Club Racquetball Team also did well - considering it was the first real tournament for 4 out of 6 of the squad players. Armando Vasquez placed third in the Red Bracket of Division I and Mason Hays took second place in the white bracket of Division 5.

"The b
est part for me to hear about the trip was that all the guys want to go again next year," said Kincses, "but they want to practice more and be better prepared. They were inspired by the level of play of many schools/players."
